Dedication

In loving memory of my grandmother, sociologist and historian Dr. Arūnė Liucija Arbušauskaitė, who transitioned on March 19, 2024. 'Senele panelė', without you, there would not have been me or this book. Your irreplaceable wisdom, support, and love guided me back to myself when I had forgotten the way home.

And…

For those who left too soon—

Your unfinished stories live on through these pages.

For those still wrestling with the darkness—

Stay.

Your pain carries a message only you can decode.

Your presence in this world creates ripples you cannot see.

Your story isn't broken—it's still unfolding.

And to the child in all of us—

who chose to survive when surrender seemed easier—

You were never lost, only temporarily forgotten.

You are not what happened to you but the awareness that witnessed it all.

You were whole from the beginning.

Through witnessing, we find our true selves.

Through transmutation, we redirect our pain into purpose.

Through compassionate accountability, we break the cycles that bind generations.

This book is not just my story, but our collective journey home —

A map back to the self we have always been.

Prologue

It’s an early Welsh morning with a beautiful rising sun boasting a purplish yellow light piercing grey clouds. The busy highway M4 from Cardiff to Newport is jammed with traffic, a crawling nightmare. I sit in my rented van, and all I can think is how to gain more speed and smash into the bridge wall. The speed needs to be fierce enough so that I don’t survive. These thoughts seemed to whisper promises of escape from the pain that has consumed me all of my life. In that moment, I was a lost little boy again, drowning in a sea of neglect and trauma, believing the lie that the world would be better off without me.

Fast forward two decades. I'm standing on a different kind of edge—the precipice of a new chapter. My trembling hands now hold a pen, poised to write the story of how that broken child transformed himself into the man I am today. A man who has walked through the fire of addiction, homelessness, and standing on the far end of the abyss known as despair. The scars I bear aren't signs of defeat but constellations mapping a journey of survival and rebirth with a blazing purpose. This book is my Phoenix Manifesto. Death has been my constant companion on this journey. Not just the specter of my own near demise, but the sobering reality that every single day, approximately 2,200 people around the world choose to end their lives.

Each of these souls leaves behind a wake of shattered hearts and unanswered questions. Their stories echo in the chambers of my own, igniting my mission to illuminate the path from darkness to light. I’ve been there, and I know it can get really dark and scary. But let me be clear…this is not just my story. This book is a tribute to the silent warriors—those who chose to end their stories too soon. And also, to the rebels and misfits, the misunderstood and the manipulated, the abused and the neglected—this is your chronicle where all ignorance is exposed. You, who were laughed at for daring to be authentic, who were ridiculed for showing your true colors and feelings in a world demanding conformity—this book honors your courage. It stands as a lifeline for those still fighting, a reminder that your struggles are seen, your suffering is valid, and your existence matters. To every dreamer whose aspirations were cut short, every voice that was silenced before its time, and every spirit that flickered out in the darkness—your light still shines. Each page here is a remembrance, each word a tribute to the indelible mark you left in this world. For those who continue to battle, know this: The true weakness lies not in your struggles but in the hearts of those who mock and belittle your pain. Your authenticity is your strength, and your sensitivity is a gift from above. May the echoes of those we've lost forever inspire us to cherish the fragility of life, to embrace our passion without apology, and to live with unwavering purpose. Let their memory urge us to be unapologetically ourselves, extend compassion to the misunderstood, and to recognize the warrior in every soul fighting to find its place in this world.

This memoir of radical self-discovery and alchemical transformation is for you—the rebels, the survivors, the ones who lost someone very dear, and those still searching for their way. The misundertood neurodivergents, you are not sick or broken, your neurological sistem is build diferent and that is your superpower. May this book serve as a reminder that you are not alone, your story matters, and that the world is in pending mode for the gift of your authentic self. As we navigate this journey together, I'll share tools and insights that pulled me back from the brink of abyss—techniques born from years of study, introspection, and hard-won experience. We'll confront the shadows of trauma, the stigma of mental illness, and the crippling effects of societal expectations. But more importantly, we'll discover the light that resides within each of us, waiting to be unleashed. Are you ready to step away from the edge of your own limitations? To confront the foundation of our cultural ethos without retreat? To embrace the endless possibilities of your evolution? Then turn the page. Your transformation begins now. Remember, in the wise words of Alan Watts, “You are the universe experiencing itself.”

Introduction

The Boy

“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”

Maya Angelou, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

It was close to midnight in the dimly lit bedroom. The clock on the wall ticked annoyingly, each second feeling like an eternity. A faint hint of moonlight sneaked through the curtains. The sound of rhythmic, restful breathing came from the man—his breath carrying the heavy burden of alcohol and the acrid scent of burned cigarettes. However, for one boy and a woman, the night refused to grant them rest. The woman was my mother, Asar. She lay in her bed, her face contorted with discomfort. Earlier that day, she had undergone a dental procedure where several of her teeth were extracted, and afterwards, she was not okay. She had hoped the pain would have subsided by now, but instead, it seemed to intensify with each passing moment. Her hand instinctively reached for her aching jaw, her fingers trembling as she touched the tender area where the teeth had once been. “Alex,” his mother whispered through gritted teeth, “Go back to sleep, sweetheart. I'll be fine.” But the boy knew better. He could see the pain etched on her face. In a small bed nearby, six-year-old Alex observed the scene with wide eyes filled with tears, covering his ears to muffle the sounds of his mom's suffering.

His curiosity and concern mingled with confusion and anger. He knew why his mother was in pain, but he couldn't understand why this man, whom he was supposed to call "father," seemed so distant and uncaring, completely oblivious to her suffering. In the darkness, the contours of Alex's face were barely visible, his innocent eyes wide with fear as he lay awake. His heart beat loudly in the silence, a drumroll of uncertainty, wishing for relief from the pain he saw in his mother's eyes. Alex couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right and that his mother shouldn't be in pain like this. He cast a puzzled glance toward his father, who continued to sleep soundly, oblivious to the turmoil in the room. In that moment, Alex began to grapple with the complexities of empathy, compassion, and the mysteries of adulthood that lay ahead. He got out of bed even when his mother shook her head, silently pleading with him not to. He tried to wake his stepfather, but all the man did was roll over and mumble something incoherent.

This night was just one of many that shaped young Alex's world—a world that extended far beyond the confines of that dimly lit bedroom. Alex was a left-handed and hyperactive boy, perpetually on the move. An innocent soul—at least for now—concealed behind fair skin and light eyes. He was also a soulful dreamer and painful introvert, scurrying to find solace and mercy from his drunk, abusive, alcoholic stepfather, Peter. Sadly, Peter was a looming figure in Alex's life—someone the boy couldn't help but despise. Unspoken conflict always lingered between them like an unstoppable storm, straining their relationship. Stuck emotionally, Alex longed for connection and acceptance, which always felt just out of reach.

Dave, Alex's stepbrother, who was portrayed by his new family as the wise big brother, postured himself as a bully, imposing his abnormal will on the sensitive younger brother. Alex felt suffocated and stripped of his autonomy and voice under the constant pressure and control exerted over him. At school, Alex was a different person—the heart and soul of his class and the school itself. His laughter echoed through the hallways—his kindness and relentless search for the truth touched classmates and teachers alike.

“What always gets you into trouble?” his teacher once asked, unaware of the storms awaiting him at home. Every teacher knew him as a beacon of laughter and an ambassador for the truth, drawing others into his world with his hyper-infectious energy. Nobody knew that every day after school, his world took a stark turn. Home was synonymous with hell—a place where connection was elusive. His mother, the only person he felt connected to, was never home. A dedicated worker, she was always preoccupied, leaving the boy yearning for her presence and love. In the home, Alex was invisible. His emotions ignored, dreams ridiculed, and his need for love and understanding abandoned. Scars left by this psychological, emotional, and even physical neglect ran deep into his adult life, etching a painful narrative into his tender heart. Yet, despite the darkness that clouded his childhood, he clung to a flicker of hope, a deep inner knowing that somehow he would be okay.

Alex's journey of self-discovery would transcend the limits of his humble origins. He grew up in the bustling port city of Klaipeda, Lithuania, where his dreams reached much further than his working-class background. Hold on, dear reader... this was just a teaser. Before we journey further, it's important you know the climate of the world Alex was born into.
